A court in Maharashtra's Pune district on Thursday granted bail to Dr Pranjal Khewalkar, son-in-law of former Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse, in an alleged drug party case, reported the PTI.
Additional Sessions Judge J G Dorle also granted bail to co-accused Prachi Gupta and Sripad Yadav, defence lawyer Pushkar Surve said.
The crime branch of Pune Police had raided a studio apartment in the upscale Kharadi area in the early hours of July 27 and allegedly busted a "drug party" going on there.
Khewalkar and six others were arrested, with the police claiming that cocaine, marijuana, hookah and liquor bottles were seized during the raid.
Pune police had reportedly seized drugs, hookah set ups and liquor after conducting a raid at a party in an apartment in the district.
Pranjal Khewalkar, the husband of Eknath Khadse's daughter Rohini Khadse, was among those arrested from the party, where narcotics, hookah set ups and liquor were seized, police had earlier said.
Rohini Khadse is state president of the women's wing of the opposition NCP (SP).
NCP (SP) leader Eknath Khadse had earlier said that a probe should be conducted to find out if there was a political motive behind the police action.
Khadse had later claimed the arrest of his son-in-law in a drugs case in Pune was a conspiracy to defame him as he had raised his voice about a "honeytrap" scandal, reported the PTI.
Speaking to reporters at his residence, Khadse had further claimed someone was the "mastermind" of the conspiracy and the police were acting as "puppets".
He had also asked why his son-in-law Pranjal Khewalkar was named as the prime accused in the drugs case, claiming visuals of the police raid showed the alleged contraband was found in a purse of one of the accused women.
"Pranjal has told me that he has never taken drugs in his entire life. My son-in-law told me that he was on the surveillance for three days. Police officials in civil dress were keeping an eye on his movement," he had earlier said.
"My son-in-law's mobile phone was seized and they also took his laptop. How are the family photos from the mobile phone being leaked? Why did the police release our family's photos? Someone is the mastermind because the police are acting as puppets," he had alleged, reported PTI.
Khadse had demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
