In a very unfortunate incident at Nainital, a Tempo Traveller carrying 18 passengers veered off the road and plunged approximately 15 metres into a gorge near Jyolikot's Aam Padav area. The incident happened in Uttarakhand's Nainital district during the late hours of Saturday; the accident left two dead and several others injured.
As reported by news agency ANI, in a recent late-night emergency operation, the Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has eventually evacuated 15 injured passengers following an incident involving a Tempo Traveller, according to SDRF.
The incident occurred on the night of November 1, following which the SDRF Post Nainital received information from the District Disaster Management, Nainital.
While highlighting the incident and the rescue operations, the authorities emphasised that the rescue team led by Sub-Inspector Manish Bhakuni immediately rushed to the spot. Upon arrival, the team found the vehicle lying 15 metres below the road.
In view of evacuating the stranded victims, the SDRF acted promptly and carried out operations with sheer precision. However, the injured were promptly evacuated and rushed to Haldwani Hospital for treatment.
During this extremely unfortunate incident, two people died on the spot, and their bodies were handed over to the local police. While the search operations are underway for one missing passenger, others have been given proper medical care. The authorities also asserted that further investigation into the case is underway.
Stones fall on a vehicle in the Rudraprayag district
Earlier, on September 1, in a different incident, two people lost their lives while three others were injured after a heavy stone falling from above in the Munkatiya landslide zone in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district hit a vehicle.
The tragic incident occurred in the Munkatiya landslide zone area between Sonprayag and Gaurikund on the route to Kedarnath Dham.
According to a release from the SDRF, “soon after receiving the information of the incident, the officials of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot and engaged in rescue and relief operations with the help of local citizens,” as per ANI.
These incidents across the state show the seriousness of the continuous landslides in the hilly areas. While the SDRF team has been regularly engaged in relief and rescue operations promptly in every difficult situation, the authorities are also keen on making road travel across the state risk-free.
