Pollard is not losing sleep over Jasprit Bumrah's wicketless run in tournament

It will be a battle of stars when hosts and five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) take on defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium tonight. Two batting stalwarts — MI’s Rohit Sharma and RCB’s Virat Kohli — will be up against each other, with everyone expecting a top-class show from both. Apart from Kohli, the visitors will also rely on their in-form captain Rajat Patidar (142 runs in three games), big-hitter Tim David and Devdutt Padikkal. MI, too, boast of a strong opening pair in Rohit and Ryan Rickelton, who shared a 148-run stand while chasing Kolkata Knight Riders’s 220-4 at Wankhede recently. Kieron Pollard. Pic/Satej Shinde RCB, however, have a strong bowling attack featuring Jacob Duffy (five wickets), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (four) and Josh Hazlewood (two). It will also be interesting to see whether left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya (four), who has been in the news for bowling effective bouncers, uses similar tactics against his brother and MI captain Hardik Pandya. MI began well, winning their opening match against KKR at home, but thereafter lost two away games, to Delhi Capitals in Delhi and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati. RCB too started strongly, winning their first two matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings, but like MI, they too suffered a heavy defeat to a Vaibhav Sooryavanshi-inspired RR in Guwahati. MI skipper Hardik Pandya at the Wankhede nets on Saturday. Pic/Atul Kamble Interestingly, opponents generally look to capitalise on 16 overs against MI, barring the four challenging overs from star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. However, RCB must be relieved that Bumrah is yet to claim a wicket after three games this season. In the first three games, Bumrah has bowled 11 overs, conceding 88 runs at an economy of 8.00. MI batting coach Kieron Pollard, however, insisted that the hosts are not worried about Bumrah’s wicketless run. “Sometimes the best form of attack is also defence. We’re not looking too much into the wicketless nature of Jasprit Bumrah. If the ball is going at 100 knots out of the ground, you don’t want to fight fire with fire, right? You want to try something different. In our camp, we are not concerned about Jasprit Bumrah. There’s no issue,” Pollard said during the pre-match press conference on Saturday. Meanwhile, most MI players, including their pacers, skipped the optional practice session on Saturday at Wankhede. Patidar’s RCB, who lost to RR by six wickets in Guwahati on Friday night, will also head into tonight’s clash without a practice session at the venue.  RCB captain Rajat Patidar. IPL 2026: Super Giants eye improved home record against depleted Titans

Lucknow Super Giants may have unearthed a new star in Mukul Choudhary, but their poor home record remains a major concern as they host Gujarat Titans in their Indian Premier League clash here on Sunday. Both teams head into the contest on the back of morale-boosting away wins. GT sealed a thrilling one-run victory over Delhi Capitals for their first win of the season, while LSG registered two impressive wins on the road against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. However, LSG have struggled to turn the Ekana Cricket Stadium into a fortress. They lost six of their eight matches here last season, including five in a row, en route to a seventh-place finish, and overall, have managed just nine wins from 22 games at the venue. This season too, they started with a batting collapse at home, getting bowled out for 141 in the six-wicket loss to DC. With this being only their second home game this year, LSG will be desperate to set the record straight. The team, though, will not be short on confidence after back-to-back away wins. The last outing against KKR was particularly special, marking the emergence of a new 'finisher' in Mukul. The unheralded 21-year-old from Rajasthan lit up the stage with a stunning six-hitting display, powered by lightning bat speed and a wide range of strokes, including the trademark helicopter shot of his idol, MS Dhoni, to emerge as the latest IPL sensation. Another positive is the return to form of Ayush Badoni, who struck a half-century against KKR to set up the chase. Badoni being among runs adds depth to an already formidable top-five featuring Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, skipper Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran. With this being an afternoon match, the contest against Gujarat's spin duo of Rashid Khan and Washington Sundar on a surface expected to be slow and offer variable bounce could prove decisive. Rashid has been back to his best in the previous game against DC, returning with Player-of-the-Match figures of 3/17 that made the difference in their one-run win. Amid criticism that opposition batters had begun to decode his variations, Rashid responded strongly with a vintage display in the middle overs, with his wickets including that of Delhi's breakout star Sameer Rizvi for a golden duck after three successive fifties. There has also been positive news on the batting front for GT, with England veteran Jos Buttler returning to form with a 27-ball 52, while skipper Shubman Gill marked his comeback from injury with a sparkling 70 at the top. IPL 2026: ‘I look at the ball, not the bowler...,’ says Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

The other day, it was Jasprit Bumrah. On Friday, Josh Hazlewood bore the brunt of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's blazing blade, as the 15-year-old insisted that he "plays the ball" and "not the bowler". Sooryavanshi smashed 78 off just 26 balls as Rajasthan Royals chased down Royal Challengers Bengaluru's total of 201 with two overs to spare. "I try to execute what I practice and back my natural game. Yes, at the back of your mind, you know who the bowler (Bumrah or Hazlewood) is but you play the ball not the bowler," said Sooryavanshi, who hit the star Aussie for three boundaries and a six off four successive deliveries. Having seen instant superstardom, Sooryavanshi said that his feet are firmly rooted to the ground with his father Sanjiv and RR support Romi Bhinder always around him with sane suggestions. "They always tell me that it is a long journey and my focus should only and only be on the game," he said. He did admit that he was upset at getting out at 78 as his team lost out on crucial runs. "My thinking is that had I been around, I could have scored 20 more runs which would be beneficial for the team," Sooryavanshi said at the post-match presentation ceremony.  300Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s strike-rate during his 78 vs RCB This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. IPL 2026: "Our fielding let us down", says Axar Patel after DC lost to CSK

The Chennai Super Kings beat the Delhi Capitals by 23 runs to get their first win of the season. CSK put on 212 at the end of their first innings and later defended it against the DC side. CSK had lost their last six matches at home and broke that streak with their first win of the season. The 5-time champions move out of the bottom place in the league table and move to ninth place. Losing captain Axar Patel was disappointed with his side's fielding as they dropped a couple of catches. He further added that despite a strong start, they failed to keep the momentum and chase the total. "I think we got off to a good start, but if we talk about the chase, after the powerplay we lost two or three wickets in quick succession, which broke the momentum. I feel the difference in fielding was the game-changing moment for me. And if you look at it, whenever wickets fell, they fell in pairs, which made things very difficult. Wickets kept falling in clusters, and that led to a drop in momentum. I think the batsmen did a decent job, but overall our fielding let us down, because if you look at it, chasing around 213–215 was pretty much possible. I would like to credit the bowlers, they did a very good job restricting the opposition to around 215–217. It was a very good batting wicket. But as I said, if we hadn’t dropped one or two catches in the field, the result could have been different. (Did the pitch slow down?) No, nothing really changed. I think it was tougher for them, maybe because of the dew and they bowled pretty well." Axar Patel said. CSK get their first win of the season A Sanju Samson masterclass in the first innings and some disciplined bowling paved the way for CSK's first win of the season. The 5-time champions started off their innings strongly with new signing Sanju Samson getting a much-needed century to kick start his CSK career. Jamie Overton starred with the ball as he took 4 wickets for just 18 runs to take CSK to a 23-run victory against DC. With this win, CSK get their first point of the season and move out of the bottom place in the league table.

David Miller and Tristan Stubbs were at the crease chasing a big target, and there was hope for DC; however, Miller was bowled by Jamie Overton to put the visitors under more pressure. Stubbs was the lone fighter in the DC team, scoring 60 runs in 38 balls, but his dismissal in the 19th over sealed the match for CSK. Ashutosh Sharma scored a fighting 19 off 10 balls, but it was not enough as CSK got their first win of the season. For CSK, Jamie Overton was the star with the ball, taking 4 wickets for just 18 runs from his four overs. The English pacer played a big role in giving CSK their first win of the season. Samson's brilliant innings of 113 runs took CSK to 212 at the end of their innings against Delhi Capitals.
