An exciting ten-race card slated for Sunday at Pune, the feature event being the Indian St Leger (Gr 1). Positano may be the most in demand as he decisively beat Pyrite and Duke Of Tuscany in the Idar Gold Trophy just two weeks ago.
But since then, Pyrite put in a gallant effort in the Gr 2, President Of India Gold Trophy at Hyderabad, and Duke Of Tuscany too has worked well on the trial track; so Positano may have a fight on hand.
However, I am going to root for Thalassa (hopefully, at a fancy price because the pedigree experts will scoff at her Excellent Art bloodline). The Faisal Abbas-trained four-year-old filly, after missing Indian Derby glory in February at Mahalaxmi due to unfortunate circumstances (she was forced to angle out to the wide outside at a crucial stage), has won all her races since. True, she beat some over-the-hill Class I horses in her last run, but the utter contempt with which she treated them makes her a realistic contender in St Leger, especially with jockey A Sandesh in the saddle.
