The trio were returning back home on Wednesday night after visiting few pandals at CST.
Ashok Swami, who was riding the bike, was heading towards Dadar when he misunderstood a car stranded on the flyover to be moving. After realising that the car was not moving, he tried to put a sudden break. The force threw the second pillion rider Ahmad Sheikh off the bike, directly on the crowd standing under the flyover, luckily not injuring the devotees standing there.
The other two riders fell of the bike on the flyover itself injuring themselves seriously.
The trio were then taken to KEM hospital at Parel for further treatment. Rajesh Prajapati, the other pillion rider who was on the edge of the bike, is in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital and the other two are also admitted.
Ashok fractured his leg bones and was operated for the same. Ahmad also fractured his right leg with injuries all over his face.
Head of Orthopaedic department at KEM, Dr Pradeep Bhosale said, “The two have sustained fractures on their legs. With Ahmad having certain face injuries we will soon conduct surgery on his face as well, whereas Ashok will also be operated as he has fractured his hand along with breaking two bones of the right leg. We have carried an emergency operation on Ashok in the morning and have put a rod to help him.”
A doctor from the surgical department, said, “Rajesh is under observation and is currently in the ICU in a critical condition. The other two are out of danger and are admitted in our wards.”
Ahmad said, “We were coming back from CST and in order to avoid ramming into a car which was stranded on the bridge, Ashok who was riding the bike, braked suddenly. All three of us fell off from the bike; luckily Ashok and I fell on the flyover whereas Rajesh fell down. We are praying that he gets well soon as he is in the ICU now.”
