A Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader was today arrested and later released on bail for allegedly trespassing into a private property and assaulting a senior citizen in suburban Dahisar in December 2007, police said.

According to the police, Praveen Darekar, along with his followers, had allegedly assaulted complainant Mahadeo Nikam, 68, and his wife on December 12, 2007 after his Nikam's son Prakash was booked in a rape case.

Prakash was allegedly accused of raping his own minor daughter, following which a complaint was lodged by Prakash's wife in the police station, police said.

After the complaint, two constables had gone to Madadeo's residence to inquire Prakash's whereabouts, on which Madadeo told them that the latter had left home early in the morning, they said.

Later, a mob allegedly consisting of MNS workers pulled Mahadeo out of his residence at Santosh Nivas in Dahisar in the presence of the police and assaulted him, blackened his face and damaged his house.

The complainant had also filed a petition in the Bombay High Court alleging he was attacked by MNS workers and an appropriate action should be initiated against MNS chief Raj Thackeray and his men.
