Mandira Bedi and kids
Mandira Bedi, an actor and host of a cricket show, has stated that although adopting infants is common, adult children without parents should also have adoptive parents.
She added that in order to encourage individuals to adopt, the procedure need to be made easier.
Adoption, according to Bedi, the mother of both biological and adopted children, "was never the last resort for us." She further said, "Even when I was dating my husband, I told him I've always wanted to have a biological child and adopt one. It wasn't just a passing thought - it was a dream I held on to from my early 20s."
During a panel discussion titled "Normalising and Encouraging Adoption in India," Bedi stated that motherhood is defined by intention, love, and a lifelong commitment rather than blood.
While discussions on adoption frequently focus on babies, Bedi brought attention to a fact that is sometimes disregarded: the predicament of older orphaned children in the adoption system.
"So many kids are left behind. Everyone wants a newborn they can hold from birth. However, slightly older kids are overlooked and forgotten inside the system. Since no one else does, consider them as well," she remarked.
Bedi shared that her daughter Tara was four years old when she returned home, drawing on her experience as an adopted mother.
At the adoption agency, she recalled a heartbreaking story of a young girl who had been chosen for adoption three times and was returned each time because of unanticipated circumstances.
It was devastating. The young girl was still without a home. When older children are left behind, it is terribly upsetting. But it works - I'm live proof. They may develop into whatever you've ever imagined if you instill your ideals in them and show them love, the actor stated.
Bedi lost her husband, Raj Kaushal in 2021. She has an adoptive daughter, Tara Bedi Kaushal, and a biological son, Vir Kaushal.
In the past, Bedi hosted the IPL and the ICC Cricket World Cups and had starred in TV soap operas "Aurat" and "Kyunki Saaas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi."
Last week, 'Sunfeast Mom's Magic' hosted the conversation.
