Actor Shalini Pandey is the latest celebrity victim of the growing menace of deepfake videos. She recently addressed the issue on social media and made it clear that the video was AI-generated. The clip, which falsely appears to show her topless, has been firmly dismissed by the actor, calling it "completely fabricated." She urged people not to share or engage with such content and strongly condemned the misuse of AI technology.
On Monday, Shalini took to her Instagram account and shared a note which read, "I want to address a fake AI-generated video of me that is currently being circulated online. The video is completely fabricated and does not depict me. It is deeply disturbing to see technology being misused in this way to target and harm individuals, especially women."
The Jayeshbhai Jordaar actor further added, "I strongly condemn this kind of abuse and believe this kind of misuse of technology should never be normalised. If you come across this video, please do not share, forward, download, or engage with it. Instead, please report it immediately. I request everyone to be responsible and mindful, and help stop its circulation rather than giving it further reach. Thank you!"
However, Shalini did share topless pictures from her vacation, but the actress firmly took a stand after those snaps were altered using AI.
Shalini is the latest celebrity to address the growing issue of AI and deepfake technology. In the past, several prominent celebrities, including Rashmika Mandanna, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Sachin Tendulkar, have spoken out against deepfakes.
For the unversed, Shalini started her acting career with the 2017 film Arjun Reddy with Vijay Deverakonda. The film became a major hit and made her a popular name. She then went on to star in movies like Mahanati (2018), Jayeshbhai Jordaar (2022), and Maharaj (2024). In 2022, Shalini made her Hindi debut with Jayeshbhai Jordaar (2022) alongside Ranveer Singh, and has also been associated with projects such as Netflix's Maharaj, Dabba Cartel, the Tamil film Idly Kadai and Prime Video's Bandwaale.
