Ajay Devgn and Mohanlal
Ajay Devgn is the face of the Hindi remake of the hit film Drishyam, originally a Malayalam film starring Mohanlal in the lead. Now, one hears that Ajay has expressed interest in remaking another Mohanlal hit for Hindi audiences. Earlier this year, Mohanlal broke box-office records with his film Thudarum, directed by Tharun Moorthy.
Speaking in an interview at IFFI, Tharun Moorthy revealed that he has been receiving offers from other industries to remake Thudarum, which was a massive hit. The director said he has been asked to helm the Hindi remake as well, but due to prior commitments, he is unable to agree at the moment. When asked who he would like to see reprise Mohanlal's role in the Hindi version, he chose Ajay Devgn, citing Devgn's stuntman background and his father's connection to the profession. "He will be able to relate emotionally to the character," Moorthy said.
When asked if Devgn has also expressed interest in the project, the filmmaker said discussions are ongoing, but nothing has been finalised yet.
Thudarum follows the story of Mohanlal, who plays a taxi driver whose peaceful life is disrupted when his car becomes entangled in a police investigation, leading to unexpected events. He is also shown as a former stuntman who has left that life behind and now lives happily with his family. The film shattered box-office records earlier this year, collecting over Rs 100 crore in Kerala alone.
Meanwhile, after the success of Thudarum, Tharun Moorthy revealed that he has reunited with the superstar for another project.
Taking to X, Moorthy wrote: "When a storyteller and a legend meet again, a universe stirs. After Thudarum, I and Mohanlal embark on another voyage, carried by the vision of Ashiq Usman Productions. Rolling soon..."
The announcement sparked huge excitement among fans, many of whom are now wondering if the new film will be a sequel to one of Moorthy's earlier works.
This speculation intensified because Moorthy had previously revealed, during Onam, that he was writing a sequel to one of his films. Now, with the director announcing his reunion with Mohanlal, fans believe the upcoming project could be the sequel to the blockbuster Thudarum.
