Ajay Devgn in Chauhaan Teaser (Picture via YouTube)
Ajay Devgn's upcoming historical film Chauhaan has landed in controversy even before its release. The movie has drawn strong objections from the Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha (Kshatriya Parishad), which has accused the filmmakers of misrepresenting Rajput history and culture.
According to the organisation, the film allegedly contains factual inaccuracies and portrays historical events in a manner that could mislead audiences. The Parishad has demanded that the makers ensure the film remains faithful to documented history and respects the legacy of Rajput rulers.
In a statement, the organisation expressed concern over what it described as the "misappropriation" of Rajput history. Members claimed that any distortion of historical facts could hurt the sentiments of the Rajput community and create confusion about significant historical events.
The controversy reportedly centres on the portrayal of the film's central character and certain historical incidents. The Kshatriya Parishad has urged the filmmakers to consult recognised historians and subject experts before the movie reaches theatres. It has also sought an opportunity to review the film before its release.
The organisation warned that if the concerns are not addressed, it may consider staging protests against the film. However, it maintained that its demand is not aimed at stopping the film's release but at ensuring historical accuracy and respectful representation.
The Parishad further stated that films based on historical figures carry the responsibility of presenting facts carefully, as they often shape public understanding of history. It argued that creative liberty should not come at the cost of altering or fictionalising important aspects of Rajput heritage.
As of now, neither Ajay Devgn nor the makers of Chauhaan have issued an official statement responding to the allegations. The production team has also not commented on whether any changes will be made to the film or whether discussions with the organisation are planned.
The latest controversy adds Chauhaan to a growing list of historical films that have faced scrutiny from community groups over their depiction of historical personalities and events. In recent years, several period dramas have encountered similar objections, leading to demands for revisions, clarifications or pre-release screenings.
With the film yet to hit cinemas, it remains to be seen whether the makers will engage with the Kshatriya Parishad to resolve the dispute. For now, the objections have sparked fresh debate over the balance between creative freedom and historical authenticity in films inspired by India's past.
