Actor Govinda's daughter Tina Ahuja has candidly spoken about the challenges of carving her own identity in the entertainment industry. In an exclusive conversation with mid-day, Tina revealed that misconceptions surrounding her star-kid status have often come in the way of securing acting opportunities.
Expressing her desire to explore meaningful projects, Tina said she is actively looking for work across films and OTT platforms. "I would love to be a part of some great OTT shows, some great projects, some great movies. I would love to. Something very good in OTT also, I'm really looking for some good acting projects. I'm really open to it and I'm really kind of looking forward to them," she shared.
However, Tina believes that a long-standing industry myth has affected her chances of landing auditions and roles. According to her, many assume that being Govinda's daughter means she would not be interested in the usual audition process.
"I just hope that people don't have the fear of 'arrey, Govinda will come on set.' He is the most chilled-out person. I don't know why these people have the myth that I am Govinda's daughter, because of which they hardly even call me for auditions and look tests. They think because I am his daughter, I wouldn't come. But that is not true. I want to do good roles. It's just that due to this myth, I don't get offers or calls for auditions for good roles," Tina said.
The actress also addressed the possibility of joining the popular reality show Laughter Chefs. While she stopped short of confirming any appearance, she said she would be happy to participate if the makers approached her.
"I don't want to say. It all depends upon the producers of Laughter Chefs. If they have some special appearance or some special role written for me, I would be very happy to be a part of it. Imagine, it'll be like the Ahujas versus I don't know what all. If the producers have some interesting special segments for us or something, we'll be more than happy to be a part of it," she said.
Tina further reflected on her evolving relationship with her mother, Sunita Ahuja, after appearing together on Maa Hai Na. She revealed that extensive travel over the last two years kept her away from home and made her realise she had not spent enough quality time with her mother.
"For past two years, I've been travelling a lot. I have been travelling a lot. I kind of have been hardly at home. Somewhere I was really very emotional about it also because Yash is very close to my mom and I'm very close to my dad. So I didn't realise that actually I've not really spent time with my mom," she shared.
Describing their bond, Tina added, "It was different. It's a very soft and a very sweet little bond that I had with her. We don't talk to each other that openly. So I felt that at least through this show, I kind of started having a conversation with her a little more than what I usually do."
She concluded with an affectionate description of her mother: "What I realised is that my mother is like a coconut. She's soft from inside, but very hard from outside. But it's okay. We are just taking our baby steps."
Through her candid remarks, Tina offered a glimpse into her professional aspirations, the challenges of carrying a famous surname, and the personal journey of growing closer to her mother.
