Harish Vyas on taking Om Ka Hari global: ‘I wanted to see how audiences respond’

Director Harish Vyas's family dramedy, Om Ka Hari, opened the 17th Indian Film Festival of Ireland on September 13. Before its Dublin première, the Raghubir Yadav, Soni Razdan, and Anshuman Jha-starrer travelled to Germany, Australia, and Canada. The director has chosen to take his movie on the international film festival circuit before its September 18 India release for a reason.

"For me, festivals are an opportunity to take the film to audiences without any preconceived notions about it," said Vyas, before explaining, "Om Ka Hari is an Indian story, but the relationship between a father and son, the things we don't say to our parents, and the difficulty of expressing love are not limited to one culture. I wanted to see how audiences in different parts of the world respond to those emotions."

Through the dramedy centred on the troubled relationship between Yadav and Jha's characters, Vyas has highlighted the need to express affection within families. He added, "It's a family dramedy with a universal theme - father versus son - and the importance of saying ‘I love you' to your dad."
