Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming magnum opus Ramayana is already creating waves globally with its hype and advance booking trends. With two more days to go before its grand worldwide release, the film has already crossed the Rs 100-crore mark in pre-sales worldwide. Interestingly, very few Indian films have managed to achieve the feat, highlighting the anticipation and buzz surrounding the Ranbir Kapoor and Yash-starrer.
For the unversed, the advance bookings for Ramayana opened on Dussehra, October 20, that is 15 full days before its global release. However, after a strong start on day 1 of pre-sales, the pace slowed down, largely since only the Hindi shows were open for booking over the first 10 days. Most of the single-screen and smaller cinema halls did not open for booking till last week. This was reportedly because Dharma Productions was in negotiations with the exhibitors for a higher revenue share. However, last Friday, more screens were added over the weekend.
This led to a massive growth in pre-sales worldwide over the last three days. By Tuesday morning, the number of screens had increased to over 5000. Over 1500 screens were added in the last 24 hours. By the morning on November 3, the film has grossed Rs 58 crore in pre-sales in India. This includes an impressive Rs 27 crore from the opening day itself. So far, the film has sold almost 15 lakh tickets in pre-sales across India.
The pre-sales buzz overseas has also helped boost Ramayana's earnings. Just 24 hours after its world premiere in Los Angeles, the film registered a 27 per cent jump in collections. By Tuesday morning, the film earned USD 5 million in advance bookings overseas, including over USD 1.5 million for the US paid previews alone. This takes the film's worldwide advance-booking earnings to Rs 105 crore gross two days before its release.
Interestingly, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in advance bookings is rare for an Indian film. So far, only a handful of Indian films, such as Baahubali 2, RRR, Pushpa 2, and Dhurandhar 2, have managed to achieve the milestone.
Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, and is planned as a two-part film. The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.
The first part is scheduled for worldwide release on November 5, 2026. The second part, which was set for Diwali 2027, is reportedly facing delays and is likely to release in 2028.
