Yash is all set to have a blockbuster year with two major releases, Toxic and Ramayana. He essays the role of demon Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's directorial, and ever since the trailer dropped, he has been receiving praise. The actor, who is also co-producing the film, revealed why he chose to play Ravana. He also stated how everyone has kept their egos aside for this film.
In an interview with India TV, Yash was asked why he chose to play Ravana despite being a co-producer of the film. He said, "If we want to show the goodness of Rama, Ravana must personify the evil. No one can portray evil better than I can. Ravan ko dekhkar lagna chahiye - 'isko kaise maara jaaye?'" Yash said. He added, "We all have kept our egos aside. It's not about my stardom or me as a star in Ramayana. The best people are working on this project."
The KGF actor also opened up about rumours that Rs 4,000 crore is the budget only for Ramayana Part 1. He said, "That is a misconception, so let me clarify it to everyone. Rs 4,000 crore is the budget for the two-part film, including release and promotion. It is the same as Hollywood. Our partner (Namit) said this after including all that. Wahan ka maths waisa hi hota hai (The math there is like this). A budget equal to the film, or sometimes more, they spend on promotion because it is global. But the revenue is global too."
At Comic-Con, Yash revealed he blasted Shiva music on the Ramayana sets to get into Ravana's mindset, even if it changed the atmosphere on set. The actor also admitted that playing such an iconic character came with extra pressure due to audience expectations.
Talking about the magnum opus, it stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Adinath Kothare as Bharat, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Arun Govil as Dashrath, and many more actors.
Apart from Ramayana, Yash is now gearing up for the release of Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups. The film is all set to release on August 26. Amid the backlash Toxic has been receiving over its intimate scenes and alleged vulgarity, Yash has now broken his silence. He defended the scenes, while adding, "Vulgarity is wrong." He also said the movie is for Gen Z. Earlier, Yash also defended Kiara Advani after she was criticised for the song Tabaahi, where she is seen in steamy intimate scenes.
