Bengaluru court issues non-bailable warrant against Prakash Raj in multiple voter ID case

Actor Prakash Raj has landed in legal trouble after a Bengaluru court issued a non-bailable warrant against him in connection with a case alleging that he possessed voter ID cards in multiple states. The case stems from a 2019 complaint claiming that the actor was registered as a voter in more than one state.

Non-bailable warrant issued against Prakash Raj

A Bengaluru court has issued a non-bailable warrant against veteran actor Prakash Raj after reports surfaced that he allegedly possesses voter identity cards in multiple states.

The matter stems from a complaint filed in 2019 by advocate Dileep Kumar at the Halasuru Gate Police Station. The complainant alleged that Raj held voter ID cards in four states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, which, if proven, would violate election rules. Under Election Commission regulations, a citizen can be registered as a voter in only one place in the country.

The 48th ACJM Court (Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate) had reportedly issued summons to the actor on two occasions, directing him to appear before it. However, Prakash Raj failed to appear on both dates. Taking note of his repeated absence despite the summons, the court has now issued a non-bailable warrant against the actor.

Prakash Raj faces heat for commenting on Hindu deities

Prakash Raj is facing a separate criminal complaint before a Tirupati court, filed by a BJP leader over "alleged inflammatory remarks concerning Hindu deities." G. Bhanuprakash Reddy, a BJP leader and a member of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Trust Board, filed the complaint against the actor.

The TTD member alleged that the accused committed an act of insulting religious feelings, which is an offence against public tranquillity, religious harmony, and the community's beliefs. Telangana BJP chief NV Subhash earlier reacted to the incident and said that the judiciary has finally taken cognisance of his "irresponsible statements" against individuals, institutions, and Hindu deities.
