About Vada Chennai

Vada Chennai (2018) is an intense crime drama that revolves around the power tussle between gangs in North Chennai. The film is about Guna (Samuthirakani) and Senthil (Kishore), who turn against their gang leader, Rajan (Ameer), after he hinders the two henchmen's thirst for power and money. Eventually, Guna and Senthil turn against each other. Their struggle pulls in a talented carrom board player, Anbu (Dhanush). The film was a critical and commercial hit at the box office when it was released, earning a cult status.

Although the sequel was announced soon, it faced multiple delays as the director and actor focused on their other film commitments. The director, Vetri Maaran, is currently filming Arasan, a spin-off from Vada Chennai, where the core characters, Guna, Senthil, and Chandra (Andrea Jeremiah) will return. Headlined by Silambarasan, the film also stars Vijay Sethupathi and Yogalakshmi in lead roles, along with Jibin Gopinath in a supporting role. Although Vada Chennai and Arasan are set in the same universe, Dhanush's character Anbu is not a part of Arasan.

On the work front, Dhanush is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Kara, which is set to release in theatres on April 30. Directed by Por Thozhil-fame Vignesh Raja, the film is written by Alfred Prakash along with the filmmaker. Additionally, Dhanush has a series of films in his line-up, which includes D55 with Rajkumar Periyasamy, D56 with Tamizharasan Pachamuthu and a film with Mari Selvaraj.
