Jay Bhanushali and Mahhi Vij ended months of speculation by announcing their separation 14 years after their marriage on Sunday, January 4, 2025. In a joint post, the couple said they would continue to remain friends and co-parent their children. Days after the announcement, Mahhi shared her first vlog addressing several rumours surrounding her relationship with Jay, including claims that she received Rs 5 crore as alimony.
Speaking on her YouTube channel, Mahhi confirmed the separation and spoke candidly about their divorce. "Yes, I am separated from Jay. We are divorced, but we remain good friends. Hum log dono waise bane hai ki hum dono kaafi peaceful log hain. Hum logon ko drama, jhagde, ladayi ya gandagi pasand nahi hai. Hum dono ne mutually decide kiya ki it's better hum log apne apne raaste jaaye. (We are both peaceful people. We don't like drama, fights, arguments, or negativity. We mutually decided that it's better for us to go our separate ways)," she said.
Mahhi further clarified that the end of their marriage does not affect the well-being of their children. "Aur aisa kuch nahi hai ki bachche bilkul anaath sadak pe aa gaye hain. Aisa kuch nahi hai. (It's not like our children have suddenly become orphans on the streets. That's not the case at all)," she said, adding that Jay's family continues to share a close bond with her.
Following the divorce announcement, Mahhi addressed claims circulating online that she had received Rs 5 crore as alimony. She urged people not to spread misinformation based on half-knowledge, pointing out that such posts are also seen by their children and families. "Right now, I'm seeing a lot of people on Instagram saying, âMahhi took Rs 5 crore in alimony.' People are digging out old videos just for likes and comments. It's very sad," she said.
While acknowledging public curiosity, Mahhi appealed for sensitivity. "It's very sad because our parents and kids also see Instagram," she added.
She also responded to trolls who labelled the situation as "drama." "No one likes going through a divorce. There's no drama here. People say it has become a joke in this industry. No, it hasn't. Divorces happen everywhere, not just in our industry. At least we handled it in a nicer way," she said.
