Netflix has dropped the trailer for Operation Safed Sagar, an upcoming military drama inspired by the Indian Air Force's role during the 1999 Kargil War. Set to premiere on August 7, the series brings to screen the untold story of the Golden Arrows Squadron, one of the youngest fighter squadrons tasked with carrying out the world's highest air operation in support of the Indian Army.
Directed by Oni Sen and created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Kushal Srivastava, the series stars Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, Abhay Verma, Dia Mirza, Prajakta Koli, Adil Hussain, Mihir Ahuja, Taaruk Raina, Arnav Bhasin and Amrita Bagchi in key roles.
Inspired by real events, Operation Safed Sagar follows the squadron as it undertakes high-risk missions in the difficult terrain of Kargil while navigating the emotional and physical demands of war. Alongside the aerial combat, the series also focuses on the families waiting back home, highlighting the sacrifices made beyond the battlefield.
According to Netflix, the series was developed after extensive research and consultations with Indian Air Force veterans. Filming took place at operational Air Force bases with access to real aircraft and infrastructure, aiming to recreate the scale and intensity of the historic mission with authenticity.
Speaking about the project, Monika Shergill described it as the platform's most ambitious production in the country to date. She credited the Indian Air Force's support and praised the cast, creators and technical teams for bringing the story to life.
Director Oni Sen said the team wanted to portray the operation with honesty while honouring the courage of the officers and their families. He added that the series is intended as a tribute to those who served during the conflict.
The makers also received guidance from Air Chief Marshal (Retd.) B.S. Dhanoa, who welcomed the adaptation and said the story of the Indian Air Force's contribution during the Kargil War deserved to be told. He expressed hope that the series would inspire more young Indians to consider joining the Air Force.
Produced by Matchbox Shots LLP and Feel Good Films, Operation Safed Sagar promises a mix of large-scale aerial action and emotional storytelling, bringing to light a chapter of the Kargil War that has rarely been explored on screen. The series will begin streaming on Netflix from August 7.
