Netflix has unveiled the first look of its upcoming family drama Unaccustomed Earth, starring Freida Pinto and Siddharth in the lead. Inspired by Jhumpa Lahiri's acclaimed short story collection of the same name, the series explores love, longing, loss and belonging through the lives of a tight-knit Indian American community.
The series is written by Madhuri Shekar, known for her work on 3 Body Problem and The Nevers. It stars Freida Pinto as Parul Chaudhury and Siddharth as Amit, alongside Indraneil Sengupta, Parveen Kaur, Sarayu Blue, Justin Bartha, Adi Roy, Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig and Jayant Kripalani.
The story follows Parul Chaudhury, a wife and mother who once sacrificed her first love to honour her father's wishes. After receiving a life-changing cancer diagnosis, Parul moves with her family from India to Cambridge, Massachusetts, a place where she once felt truly at home.
With limited time ahead of her, Parul decides to pursue the life she had previously given up. Her choices, however, begin to affect not just her family but the wider immigrant community around her, setting off a chain of changes across generations.
Set against the culturally vibrant communities of Cambridge and Boston, the series brings together multi-generational families whose lives are shaped by their relationships, choices and experiences as immigrants.
Siddharth plays Amit, while Indraneil Sengupta portrays Jai and Parveen Kaur stars as Nina. Sarayu Blue, Justin Bartha, Adi Roy, Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig and Jayant Kripalani round out the series regular cast as Ruma, Adam, Kaushik, Hema and Pranab, respectively.
The additional cast includes Ishita Bansal as Divya, Meera Simham as Swati, Ravi Kapoor as Vishal, Swayam Bhatia as Sudha and Palomi Ghosh as Anjali.
Madhuri Shekar also serves as an executive producer alongside John Wells, Jhumpa Lahiri, Nisha Ganatra, Erica Saleh, Erin Jontow and Celia Costas. Filmmaker Ritesh Batra will direct and executive produce the first two episodes.
Produced by Warner Bros. Television, Unaccustomed Earth will stream exclusively on Netflix from December 17, 2026.
