Laugh about all things Bollywood at this comedy gig in Mumbai this weekend

Created by the trio behind The Internet Said So (TISS) podcast, Bollywood Postmortem is a live comedy show that examines what has gone wrong in Bollywood over the past decade using stand-up comedy, music, film analysis and multimedia presentations.

"Bollywood Postmortem is a comedic examination of everything that has gone wrong in Bollywood in the last decade," says Varun Thakur. "We all love Bollywood, and are absolute geeks. Bollywood connects everyone across the country, and that relatability is what makes it a perfect subject for the show."

The comedians take aim at what they see as the industry's growing dependence on recycled ideas. "The aspects of Bollywood that deserve an autopsy are the dearth of original ideas. For every Dhurandhar, we also have a Nadaaniyan, a Loveyapa and a Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2024)," Thakur notes. Aadar Malik adds that while the show celebrates cinema's successes, its focus remains on the industry's shortcomings. "We'll talk about the good films, but there are simply many more bad ones. A major chunk of the show is for audiences to realise trends that have been right in front of them all along."

Packed with parodies, music and audience interaction, the performers describe the production as a "Bollywood roast/variety show." As Thakur puts it, "Watching a live show with 500 people laughing together can never compare to watching it on your phone screen. Many parts of this show won't be uploaded online, making the live experience truly special."
