The son of Dombivli school trustee was booked by the police for allegedly sending obscene messages and demanding sexual favours from a woman teacher, officials said, reported the PTI.
Following the complaint, the police detained a 31-year-old man for harassing the teacher at the English-medium school in Dombivli area of Thane district in Maharashtra.
According to the police, an FIR was registered against the accused at the Manpada Police Station.
According to the police, the accused is the son of a trustee associated with the school. He allegedly sent inappropriate messages and video clips to the teacher and repeatedly demanded sexual favours, the news agency reported.
Despite the victim blocking and ignoring him, the harassment is said to have continued.
The situation intensified when the teacher approached members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for support, according to the PTI.
On Thursday morning, a group of MNS activists reached the school in the Sagav area, raising slogans and demanding strict action against the accused.
Tension prevailed at the school for over an hour as activists and locals gathered on the premises. Some members reportedly attempted to confront the accused before police intervened, reported the PTI.
A police team arrived promptly and managed to bring the situation under control.
The accused's father, a retired professor and trustee of the school, stated that the law should take its course if his son is found guilty.
Police said the accused has been detained for questioning, and statements are being recorded. Authorities are also examining digital evidence related to the alleged messages and videos, the news agency reported.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a 28-year-old man from Maharashtra's Thane district has been arrested for allegedly molesting girls, police said on Friday.
The accused, a resident of the Titwala area, allegedly inappropriately touched a 13-year-old girl on Thursday, reported the PTI.
The girl informed her parents about the incident. When they were discussing the matter with neighbours, some local residents also alleged that the accused had molested another child in the same area a few days ago, according to the police.
The families of the minors then approached the Kalyan taluka police station, following which a case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, the official said.
The man has been arrested and a probe is underway, he added, the news agency reported.
