A 32-year-old man from Chembur died in a hit-and-run accident in Mulund East in Mumbai after an autorickshaw allegedly made a sudden wrong U-turn and collided with his motorcycle near the Airoli Bridge, official said on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Mital Patil, a restaurant manager. He lived in Chembur with his elder brother Karan (35), a civil engineer.
According to Navghar police, the incident took place around 1:15 pm when Patil was riding his motorcycle towards Thane via the Airoli Bridge. An unidentified autorickshaw allegedly took a sudden wrong U-turn on Navghar Road and hit his bike.
The impact threw Patil onto the road, causing severe head injuries.
The autorickshaw driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Patil was rushed to Veer Savarkar Hospital in Mulund East. His brother Karan said he received a call around 1:30 pm informing him about the accident and the hospital transfer.
When he reached the hospital at around 2:05 pm, doctors told him that Patil had been declared dead at 1:55 pm due to serious head injuries.
Navghar police have registered an FIR against an unknown autorickshaw driver under charges of rash and negligent driving causing death, along with relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act.
