Three killed after container truck falls on car near Khopoli at Mumbai-Pune Expressway

At least three people were killed after a container truck fell on car near Khopoli on Mumbai-Pune Expressway, sources said on Wednesday.

The accident took place near the Khopoli exit in the tunnel section on the Pune-to-Mumbai route, they said.

According to sources, a container truck overturned and fell onto a car travelling close to the heavy vehicle. The impact of the accident was such that the car was crushed completely in the incident.

Reports suggested that some other vehicles were also met with an accident thereafter, leading to a chain collision.

Three people died on the spot, while some others have sustained injuries in the accident.

Cops reach the spot

Following the incident, the police rushed to the spot.

Videos of the rescue operations were also posted online.

"After receiving information about the accident, multiple teams rushed to the scene. These included highway patrol units, local police and emergency response teams," sources said.

Damaged vehicles were being cleared from the road. The officials were also working to restore normal traffic flow on the expressway.
