Amit Shah in Mumbai today, here's all you need to know

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is in Mumbai on Tuesday for a day packed with significant cultural and political engagements.

Kicking off his visit, Shah will attend the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Shri Laxminarayan mandir at Madhavbaug. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is also expected to be present at the event.

Shah to Deliver Lecture on Veer Savarkar

In the afternoon, Shah is scheduled to deliver a keynote lecture commemorating the 60th death anniversary of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The event will be held at the University of Mumbai's Sir Cowasji Jehangir Hall.

Shah's Mumbai visit also includes closed-door meetings with senior BJP leaders and Mahayuti alliance partners, as the party strategises ahead of the crucial Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

He is expected to return to Delhi later Tuesday afternoon.

Key Events on Monday: Nagpur and Nanded

Before arriving in Mumbai, Shah was in Nagpur on Monday, where he laid the foundation stone for Swasti Niwas, a residential facility for cancer patients and their families at the National Cancer Institute. He later travelled to Nanded in the Marathwada region, where he unveiled a life-size statue of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vasantrao Naik.

Shah also inaugurated a few BJP offices in the region, with members of the Banjara community welcoming him.

During a public address in Nanded, Shah took a swipe at the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), accusing the party of belittling India's international efforts to combat terrorism. Referring to Operation Sindoor, he remarked:

"Had Balasaheb Thackeray been alive, he would have hugged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the success of Operation Sindoor."

Shah criticised the Uddhav Sena for referring to the government's multi-party delegations - sent to 33 global capitals to highlight India's stand against terrorism - as mere "baraats" (wedding processions).

"I don't understand what has happened to the Uddhav Sena. They are calling these delegations a ‘baraat', even though their own members are part of it," Shah said.

The Union Home Minister's two-day Maharashtra tour underscores the BJP's efforts to consolidate its position across the state ahead of upcoming civic and assembly polls.
