Kenyan caught smuggling gold worth Rs 2.25 crore at Mumbai airport

Mumbai's Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) Saturday evening caught Kenyan national with 7.5 kilogram smuggled gold worth Rs. 2.25 Crore


Mumbai's Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) Saturday evening caught Kenyan National with 7.5 kilogram smuggled gold worth Rs. 2.25 crore. According to the information recieved from sources, the Worli unit of ANC officers on July 23 nabbed the 25-year-old cabin crew member of Kenyan airlines. The Kenyan national was caught near Hyatt Regency Hotel in Sahar. The ANC initailly had a tip-off that the cabin crew member was carrying drugs with him, however nothing as found during his physical check.

It was then that the ANC officers found him in possession of around 7.5 Kg gold bars. The cabing crew had arrived on direct flight from Nairobi - Mumbai on Saturday.

"No satisfactory explanation or documents regarding the gold was given. Prima facie it appears that the gold was smuggled by him from Kenya," stated an ANC officer. "ANC staff is handing over him along with the gold found in his possession to Customs officers for further action. "

Sources claimed that a few months ago, Airport customs had arrested Kenya Air's cargo and security officer in a narcotics case.
