Maharashtra govt tables Rs 57,509 crore supplementary demands on Day 1

The Maharashtra government on Monday tabled supplementary demands worth Rs 57,509.71 crore in the state Legislative Assembly. On the first day of the three-week monsoon session in Mumbai, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who also holds the finance and planning portfolios, presented the additional funding requests, which go beyond the previously approved state budget.

Of the total amount, Rs 19,183.85 crore has been earmarked for mandatory expenditures. The remaining amount will fund planned schemes and new initiatives. These include Rs 1600 crore for the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Health Scheme and Rs 1500 crore for the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Grant Scheme.

According to the supplementary papers tabled by Pawar, Rs 3228.38 crore has been allocated for stamp duty surcharge refunds to metro projects, municipal corporations, municipal councils, and Zilla Parishads. Additionally, Rs 1000 crore has been provisioned for the planning and execution of the Nashik Kumbh Mela scheduled in 2027.

Rajesh Kumar appointed chief secretary

On Monday, the Maharashtra government appointed 1988-batch IAS officer Rajesh Kumar as the new chief secretary of the state. He succeeds Sujata Saunik, who retired the same day. As per the order issued by V Radha, additional chief secretary (general administration department), Kumar will also continue to hold the post of additional chief secretary (revenue) until further notice.
