City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO) is developing an integrated bus terminus-cum-residential project in Kharghar's Sector 14, the first such initiative in the node where a public transport facility is being built beneath a residential complex.
A senior CIDCO official said, "The project has been planned in such a way that there will be no disturbance to residents from the bus terminus. Specific architectural and engineering measures have been incorporated to minimise noise pollution from bus movements and terminal operations."
CIDCO has written to the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding the future operation and maintenance of the facility, but has not received a response so far.
"Our role is to construct the bus terminus and hand it over to the concerned authority for operation. We have communicated with PMC, but are yet to receive any reply," a senior official told mid-day.
While officials have not confirmed who will operate the terminal, sources said it could be handed over to PMC or a civic transport undertaking after completion.
Urban planners view the project as an example of transit-oriented development, integrating transport infrastructure with residential spaces to optimise land use.
Once operational, the facility is expected to improve public transport connectivity in Kharghar and make more efficient use of limited urban land. Construction work is currently underway.
