Maharashtra: Two killed after speeding BMW crashes into divider in Badlapur

Two people were killed after a BMW car allegedly being driven at extremely high speed crashed into a divider on the Baroda-Panvel Highway in Maharashtra's Badlapur, police said. A case has been registered against the driver, and an investigation is underway, reported ANI.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 2.39 am on June 21 within the jurisdiction of the Badlapur West Police Station. Authorities were alerted after receiving information about a serious road accident on the highway, reported ANI.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle lost control and rammed into a divider, causing extensive damage to the car and leaving two occupants critically injured.

Police receive alert in early hours

Officials said police personnel rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call regarding the crash.

Badlapur Senior Police Inspector Kishore Shinde said the impact of the collision was so severe that the luxury vehicle was almost completely destroyed, reported ANI.

"On June 21, 2026, at 2:39 a.m., within the jurisdiction of Badlapur West Police Station, police received a call regarding a road accident on the Baroda-Panvel Highway. Upon investigation, it was found that a BMW car with three occupants, including the driver, had collided with a divider and was completely damaged, with vehicle parts scattered at the scene."

Photographs and evidence collected from the site indicated the force of the impact, with debris reportedly scattered across a large section of the highway.

Two occupants succumb to injuries

The two passengers who sustained serious injuries in the crash were identified as Rebecca Jacob and Yogesh Kishan Negi, reported ANI.

Emergency responders shifted both victims to Badlapur Rural Hospital for treatment. However, despite medical intervention, they later succumbed to their injuries.

"Two occupants, Rebecca Jacob and Yogesh Kishan Negi, were found on the spot with severe injuries. Both were then taken to Badlapur Rural Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries," Shinde said, reported ANI.

Police said the third occupant, who was driving the vehicle, survived the accident.

Driver accused of excessive speeding

The driver has been identified as Angad Gill. According to investigators, preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle was being driven at an exceptionally high speed at the time of the accident.

Police alleged that Gill had violated traffic regulations and was travelling at approximately 250 kmph when the crash occurred.

"Investigation revealed that the driver, Angad Gill, disregarded traffic rules and drove at a speed of approximately 250 kmph, resulting in two deaths," the senior police inspector said, reported ANI.

Investigators are examining evidence from the accident site and other available material to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the crash.

Case registered, probe underway

Police have registered a case against the driver in connection with the accident.

Officials said further investigation is underway to establish all aspects of the incident, including the circumstances that led to the vehicle crashing into the divider.

The accident has once again highlighted concerns over speeding and reckless driving on highways, with authorities continuing to urge motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and speed limits to prevent fatal road accidents.
