An eight-year-old boy died after he was allegedly hit and run over by an Innova Crysta in Bandra West on Sunday afternoon.
The woman driving the vehicle has been arrested by the Bandra Police in Mumbai.
The deceased has been identified as Ansh Ravindra Gupta, 8. According to the police, the accident took place between 2.15 pm and 2.30 pm in front of Jijamata Garden on John Baptist Road in Bandra West.
Police said Ansh was crossing the road when the Innova Crysta allegedly struck him. The vehicle then ran over the child, leaving him critically injured.
The driver, identified as Megha Raval, around 45, was allegedly talking on her mobile phone while driving at high speed and in a negligent manner, police said.
Following the accident, Ansh was rushed to Holy Family Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The Bandra police have registered a case against Raval under Sections 105, 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Raval has been arrested in connection with the case. Police are conducting further investigations to establish the exact circumstances leading to the fatal accident.
