A 41-year-old man was killed and his wife and another scooter rider were injured after a car allegedly rammed into their two-wheeler in Mumbai's Khar West on Monday evening, police said, reported the PTI.
The accident took place at the junction of C D Road in Khar West.
The deceased has been identified as Iyappan Selvaraj Harijan. His wife, Nancy, 37, suffered injuries to her hand, while another scooter rider sustained a suspected fracture to his arm, police said, as per the PTI.
According to Nancy's complaint, she was travelling towards Bandra with her husband when a white car approaching from behind hit their motorcycle. The impact threw Nancy onto the road, while Iyappan, who was wearing a helmet, became trapped underneath the car, the news agency reported.
Bystanders at the scene reportedly lifted the vehicle and pulled him out.
Both Iyappan and Nancy were taken to Bhabha Hospital in an auto-rickshaw.
Doctors declared Iyappan dead while undergoing treatment due to severe head and body injuries, an official said.
Nancy and the other injured scooter rider were treated for their injuries.
The car driver has been identified as Sudhir Sawant, 71.
Based on Nancy's complaint, Khar Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 106(1), which deals with causing death by negligence, and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, according to the PTI.
Police said further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is underway.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a 25-year-old man was killed and three others were injured after a car crashed into a stationary truck near Badarpur Metro station in south-east Delhi around 1 am on Tuesday, police said, reported the PTI.
The car, which had a Delhi registration number, was travelling from Faridabad towards Delhi when it rammed into the stationary truck, according to police.
The deceased was identified as Sumit. He was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors declared him dead.
The truck driver fled the spot after the crash, leaving the vehicle behind. Police have seized the truck and launched efforts to identify and trace the driver.
The truck is registered in Faridabad in the name of Shri Radhekrishna Transport Service.
A police team reached the spot after the Badarpur police station received a call reporting the accident.
