Even as the rly infra passes trials, finding the right-sized tankers to bring the oxygen continues to be a hurdle for authorities

The ramp has been prepared for heavier oxygen lorries

The first ramp in Mumbai suburban limits to load oxygen tankers onto flat wagons near Jogeshwari station passed trials on Thursday.

"An additional RCC wall of 700 mm has been constructed to support the ramp besides other strengthening side walls and surfacing. It has been designed in such a way that the end flap of the wagon will rest on the wall giving support between the ramp and wagon," a WR spokesperson said.

The ramps have been prepared for heavier 31-tonne lorry tankers to be loaded on trains at the Jogeshwari yard. A senior official said the infrastructure in Mumbai suburban limit was necessary for faster transportation of liquid medical oxygen inside the city.

While the railway infra is getting ready, the real problem is finding the right-sized tankers. A senior railway official said that since they need to be placed on railway wagons and transported all the way across the country, they need to be of the right size. Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Avinash Dhakne had said that they have been exploring all options and are confident of working out a solution.
