The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, warning of heavy rainfall.
The weather alert mentioned, "Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places was likely on July 1."
Heavy showers continued across several parts of Mumbai through Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai on Tuesday witnessed substantial rainfall on June 30. Between 8 am and 10 pm, the island city recorded an average rainfall of 64.85 mm, while the eastern suburbs received 76.69 mm, the highest among the three regions. Whereas the western suburbs recorded an average of 70.30 mm during the same period.
Parts of Mumbai recorded over 100 mm of rainfall in just seven hours, according to data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
As per the BMC's rainfall update, the highest rainfall between 8 am and 3 pm was recorded at Pascoli Powai Municipal School in Powai, which received 118.4 mm of rain.
Other areas in the eastern suburbs that witnessed intense rainfall included Tagore Nagar Municipal School in Vikhroli (117.4 mm), Vikhroli Fire Station (115.8 mm), MCMCR, Powai (114 mm), and the Building Proposal Office in Vikhroli West (106 mm).
The western suburbs also experienced heavy rainfall during the seven-hour period. Andheri Fire Station topped the list with 116.4 mm of rain, followed by Malpa Dongari Municipal School, Andheri (112.4 mm), Cooper Hospital (110.8 mm), K-East Ward Office (107.2 mm), and SWM Santacruz Workshop (107.2 mm).
In the island city, rainfall was comparatively lower. The G-South Ward Office recorded the highest rainfall at 47.8 mm, followed by B Nadkarni Park Municipal School, Wadala (46.6 mm), F South Ward Office (46.6 mm), F North Ward Office (45.8 mm), and Worli Fire Station (41.2 mm).
Meanwhile, the IMD issued a red alert for Ratnagiri district, stating, "Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places."
The weather department predicted that thunderstorm activity accompanied with lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places in several districts in Maharashtra.
A yellow alert was issued for Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Satara, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Akola, Buldhana, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal.
An orange alert was issued for Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia Bhandara, Sindhudurg, ghats of Pune, Satara and Kolhapur.
