Heavy monsoon showers lashed Mumbai on Saturday, inundating several parts of the city and disrupting public transport.
The eastern suburbs recorded the highest rainfall, with some locations receiving more than 240 mm of rain between 8 am and 6 pm, while 214 BEST buses broke down due to the adverse weather.
The intense rainfall led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas, slow-moving traffic and disruption to normal life across the city.

The top five rainfall stations recorded between 8 am and 6 pm were:
- Building Proposal Office, Vikhroli West: 246.6 mm
- Paspoli Powai Municipal School, Powai: 240 mm
- Tagore Nagar Municipal School, Vikhroli: 231.8 mm
- Bhandup Complex: 222.8 mm
- Vikhroli Fire Station: 220 mm
In the official rainfall observations between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, Ram Mandir recorded 206.5 mm, followed by Vikhroli (188 mm), Santacruz (164.1 mm), Vidyavihar (126 mm), Bandra (112 mm), Sion (100 mm), Byculla (70.5 mm) and Colaba (70.2 mm).
The western suburbs experienced widespread heavy rainfall.
The highest rainfall was recorded at:
- Chincholi Fire Station: 220.8 mm
- PN Ward Office: 218.6 mm
- Andheri Fire Station: 208.8 mm
- Hindhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Municipal School, Jogeshwari: 207.4 mm
- K West Ward Office: 206.2 mm
Several roads witnessed waterlogging, leading to traffic congestion during the day.
South Mumbai also received substantial rainfall, although lower than the suburbs.
The leading rainfall stations included:
- G South Ward Office: 123.2 mm
- F North Ward Office: 120.4 mm
- F South Ward Office: 116.2 mm
- Malabar Hill: 112.6 mm
- N.M. Joshi Marg Municipal School, Lower Parel: 111.2 mm
Rainfall recorded between 8.00 am and 7.00 pm showed:
- Island City: 116 mm
- Eastern Suburbs: 180 mm
- Western Suburbs: 166 mm
The figures highlight that the eastern suburbs bore the brunt of Saturday's monsoon spell.
Heavy rain affected the city's bus services.
According to the latest figures, 214 BEST buses broke down during the day, including:
- 13 BEST-owned buses
- 202 wet lease buses
The BEST bus breakdowns caused delays on several routes, adding to commuter inconvenience.
