Two dead, five injured after Ganesh idol falls during ceremony in Mumbai's Bhuleshwar

According to civic authorities, seven people were injured in the incident, of whom two died and five were undergoing medical treatment at different hospitals

Two people died and five others were injured after a Lord Ganesh idol fell during an arrival ceremony in Bhuleshwar area of south Mumbai on Saturday night, official said.

The incident was reported at around 9.51 pm near Balaram Merchant Road near Kabutarkhana at Jay Ambe Chowk in Bhuleshwar, they said.

According to preliminary information, the Ganesh idol fell while it was being brought to the area as part of the arrival ceremony of the deity.

The circumstances that led to the idol falling were not immediately clear.

Two dead, five injured

The officials said that seven people were affected in the incident, of whom two died and five were injured.

At GT Hospital, three people were brought in, of whom one was declared dead. Reliance Hospital reported one death, while JJ Hospital received three injured persons.

According to hospital-wise information, Sanket Nevshe, 33, was declared brought dead at Reliance Hospital, while Brijesh Hemant Joshi, 30, was declared brought dead at GT Hospital.

Two other injured persons treated at GT Hospital were identified as Vaibhav Ghenand, 38, and Pawan Chaurasiya, 25. Both were admitted and reported to be in stable condition.

Meanwhile, JJ Hospital received three injured persons - Lavanya Ganer, 5, Divya Ganer, 7, and Kunal Kashid, 26. All three were admitted and reported to be stable.

Emergency agencies rush to spot

Following the incident, multiple agencies were mobilised, including the BMC's Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), Mumbai Police, Traffic Police, 108 ambulance services and BMC ward staff.

Officials reached the area to manage the situation and provide emergency assistance.
