Mumbai: Palghar plans night drive to remove stray cattle and prevent road accidents

The Palghar Zilla Parishad has announced a targeted campaign to remove stray cows and bulls from public roads, aiming to prevent frequent accidents and ensure safe shelter for the cattle, officials said on Thursday.

Cattle owners have been given two days to claim and secure their livestock. "After the deadline, authorities will seize stray animals found on the streets and permanently shift them to registered shelters", an official said.

Drive planned

The decision was finalised at a high-level coordination meeting on September 2 chaired by Palghar Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Manoj Ranade. The meeting was attended by shelter representatives, animal welfare advocates, police officials, NGOs and Corporate Social Responsibility partners.

A coordinated drive will be carried out on the night of September 8, focusing on mapping stray cattle clusters, managing transport under police protection and safely transferring the animals to partner facilities.
