Central Railway's Mobile UTS Sahayaks have issued tickets to over 5.40 lakh passengers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai, generating revenue of Rs 6.89 crore within six months of the facility's launch.

The initiative was introduced on October 31, 2025, with three Mobile UTS Sahayaks deployed at the terminus. Following a strong response from commuters and in view of the summer rush, the number was increased to eight in January 2026.

According to Central Railway, a total of 3.86 lakh tickets were issued to 5.40 lakh passengers between October 31, 2025, and April 30, 2026, earning Rs 6.89 crore in revenue. In April 2026 alone, 1.25 lakh tickets were issued to 1.72 lakh passengers, generating Rs 2.22 crore.

Equipped with mobile phones and portable ticket printing machines, the Mobile UTS Sahayaks operate across station concourses, holding areas and other railway premises, issuing tickets on the spot. The service supports both cash and digital payments and can also be operated from ticket counters when required.

Officials said the initiative has significantly improved passenger convenience by reducing waiting time and easing congestion at ticket counters, particularly during peak hours. It has also helped curb ticketless travel, which often occurs due to long queues.

The Mobile UTS Sahayaks are part of the efforts to enhance passenger-friendly services at one of Mumbai's busiest railway stations, Central Railway said.

Passengers have been encouraged to use the facility, especially during rush hours, to avoid long queues and save time.

The initiative has received a positive response and is expected to be expanded further in the coming months.

Rs 16.13 crore collection in April marks the highest-ever monthly collection, surpassing the previous record of Rs 14.50 crore set in May 2023, it said.

During April 2026, ticket checking teams detected and penalised around 2.27 lakh cases of irregular travel across Mail and Express and suburban trains, including Mumbai AC local trains. This is a 56 per cent increase compared to 1.45 lakh cases recorded in April 2025.

The total penalty recovered also saw a major jump, rising by 166 per cent from Rs 6.07 crore in April 2025 to Rs 16.13 crore this year.
