Mumbai, Thane and Palghar reel under hot weather; light rains possible, predicts IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, stating that hot and humid conditions would continue during the day and there was a possibility of light rain or thundershowers towards late afternoon or evening.

In its morning weather bulletin, the weather department stated that Mumbai was likely to witness a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds.

Daytime temperatures were expected to remain high, with the maximum temperature likely to touch 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to settle around 26 degrees Celsius, the IMD stated.

Mumbai records good air quality

Despite the hot and humid weather, Mumbai's air quality remained in the 'good' category on Tuesday.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) Sameer App, the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 47, indicating minimal impact on public health.

Air quality varied across different parts of the city, with most monitoring stations recording AQI levels in the good to satisfactory range.

Bandra Kurla Complex recorded an Air Quality Index of 46, Borivali 47, Byculla 58, Andheri 31, Chembur 43, Colaba 47 and Kurla 61.

Yellow alert for parts of Maharashtra

As per the weather bulletin, parts of Maharashtra including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Nashik, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Solapur, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Akola, Bhandara and Bhuldana were under a yellow alert.

It stated, "Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, moderate rainfall& gusty winds (40-50kmph) at isolated places was very likely."

Alert for Vidarbha

The IMD on Tuesday issued a yellow alert for several districts in Maharashtra's Vidarbha, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and strong gusty winds.

The weather department also issued an orange alert for Amravati district.

The alert stated, "Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 50-60 kmph) at one or two places."

According to a weather bulletin, several district including Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Akola, Yavatmal, Bhuldana and Washim were under a yellow alert.

The alert stated that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph were very likely to occur at one or two places.

The residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid open areas during thunderstorms, and take necessary precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds.
