A 75-year-old woman died in a tragic road accident outside the Sahyadri State Guest House at Malabar Hill on Tuesday morning after an electric BEST bus collided with a parked car.

The victim, identified as Neeta Nitin Shah, a resident of Prakash 1 Building, Ridge Road (B. G. Khair Marg), was out for her morning walk when the incident occurred around 9:10 am. According to officials, she was caught between the bus and the parked car, sustaining severe head injuries. She died on the spot.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the electric bus, operating on Route 105 from Vijay Vallabh Chowk to Kamala Nehru Park, was approaching the spot when the driver reportedly heard a sudden noise. Upon inspection, he discovered that a pedestrian had come in contact with the left rear tyre of the bus, and the collision had also damaged a car parked on the roadside.

Police personnel present at the scene rushed Ms. Shah to J. J. Hospital, where she was declared dead before admission at 10:37 am by Dr. Snehal Jadhav.

In another incident, ten women on their way to a temple were killed and 30 others injured after a pick-up van packed with passengers fell off the road on a hilly terrain and plunged into a gorge on Monday in Pune district, police said, reported PTI.

The vehicle carrying over 40 passengers, most of them women and children, veered off the road and plunged 25 to 30 feet after it failed to climb an incline - possibly due to overloading -- and rolled back down before toppling into the gorge at around 1 pm, a police officer said, reported PTI.

The victims, who hailed from Papalwadi village, were headed to Shree Kshetra Mahadev Kundeshwar Temple in Khed tehsil in the western Maharashtra district to mark the auspicious Monday of the Shravan month when the accident took place near Pait village, he said, reported PTI.

Locals rushed to the spot and alerted police.
