A group of students from Amity University's Panvel campus has escalated a growing health crisis to the state government, alleging that contaminated food and water at the university mess have led to a spike in serious illnesses.

Represented by the Students Federation of India (SFI), a student delegation reached out to officials at the Mantralaya to submit a formal representation. They claim that while initial issues were limited to food poisoning, the situation has worsened since January, with several students now contracting Jaundice and Hepatitis A.

Conflicting reports

"The university tells us everything is FSSAI-approved and cleared by inspections, yet students have fallen sick," said one student who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "We have had meetings, but there have been no resolutions thus far." mid-day reached out to the university for a comment but received no response by press time.

Demands for accountability

Students are demanding:
The formation of an independent food inspection committee that includes student members
An immediate change in the mess contractor
Mandatory, regular testing of all on-campus food and water sources
Attendance relaxation for those currently sidelined by illness.
