Security agencies and metro authorities pulled off a massive emergency security drill at the Central Park Metro Station on Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1 (Belapur-Pendhar) on Wednesday, simulating a high-stakes "Station Hijacking and Bomb Threat" scenario.
The drill, conducted on May 20, was designed to test the real-time readiness, evacuation speed, and tactical coordination between multiple security and civil agencies during a major security crisis.
The simulated crisis involved an unauthorised takeover of the station by hostile elements alongside a suspected explosive threat on the premises. As soon as the emergency protocols were triggered, metro staff and security personnel immediately swung into action to isolate the station and begin passenger evacuation.
The Quick Response Team (QRT) of the Navi Mumbai Police, alongside local police units, rapidly mobilised to launch a synchronised tactical response. The exercise put several critical emergency elements to the test, including:
Senior officials from the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), Maha Metro, and top police brass monitored the drill. Authorities expressed high satisfaction with the professionalism, timing, and synchronised operational response shown by the participating teams.
Commuters and station staff also cooperated fully with the security forces during the brief simulated lockdown.
Officials emphasised that these routine, high-intensity drills are crucial for identifying potential operational gaps, refining inter-agency communication, and ensuring robust public safety and infrastructure security against modern security challenges.
