Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday said that all SRA redevelopment projects in North Mumbai would be planned in a way that ensures no family is left homeless, reported the ANI.
The North Mumbai MP on Sunday addressed nearly 150 complaints related to Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects during Mumbai's first-ever SRA âJanata Darbar'.
The public hearing was organised at Atal Smruti Udyan in Shimpoli and witnessed a large turnout of residents from North Mumbai seeking solutions to long-pending housing and rehabilitation issues.
Addressing citizens at the event, Goyal assured residents that all SRA redevelopment projects would be well planned and would ensure that no family in North Mumbai remains homeless.
He said discussions had already been held with the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Municipal Commissioner, SRA officials and MMRDA authorities to ensure that residents receive permanent homes within the same localities where they currently live.
During the hearing, Goyal reviewed complaints linked to housing eligibility, rehabilitation flat allocation, biometric verification issues and pending rent payments under SRA schemes, according to the ANI.
He directed SRA officials present at the venue to take immediate action on unresolved cases.
According to officials, several pending matters related to rent arrears, biometric disputes and flat allotment were resolved during the programme itself, the news agency reported.
According to the ANI, the Union minister also warned against developers failing to pay rent to displaced residents during redevelopment projects.
He instructed authorities to blacklist such developers and initiate strict legal action against them.
Goyal further stated that residents should have the freedom to choose suitable developer groups for redevelopment projects if required, and assured them there would be no political interference in the process.
Speaking about his broader vision for North Mumbai, Goyal said every family should have access to housing, healthcare, education and employment opportunities, the news agency reported.
He also highlighted the Skill Development Centre in Kandivali East, where thousands of young people are receiving vocational training, including programmes aimed at helping them secure overseas employment opportunities.
During his address, Goyal also referred to welfare initiatives undertaken under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
He said over 25 crore people across the country had benefited from improved access to electricity, water, cooking gas, sanitation facilities and digital connectivity.
He also pointed to the development of nearly 8 lakh kilometres of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
