A man, recognised as Gokul Jha, who was on the run after allegedly assaulting a female receptionist at a private hospital in Maharashtra's Thane district, has been arrested and remanded in police custody for two days by a court on Wednesday, a police official said, reported news agency PTI.
The alleged incident occurred on Monday evening at Shree Bal Chikitsalaya in the Kalyan East area. Following the attack, Jha reportedly fled the scene and attempted to change his appearance by shaving his beard and trimming his hair. However, locals apprehended him on Tuesday and handed him over to the police.
Furthermore, a widely circulated video showed Jha allegedly kicking the 25-year-old receptionist and dragging her by her hair across the reception floor of the paediatric hospital, PTI reported.
Police officials stated that Jha was reportedly in anger because as the receptionist did not allow him and a woman accompanying him with a baby to jump the queue to see a doctor who was already busy with other patients.
Based on the receptionist's complaint, the Manpada police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Jha under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for assault, also for using obscene language, and outraging the modesty of a woman. The police had detained his brother, Ranjit and other relatives who were present during the alleged assault at the hospital.
On Wednesday, the Kalyan District and Sessions Court remanded Jha in police custody for two days. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Atul Zende from Kalyan stated that the Manpada police will further investigate into Jha's motive behind the assault and check if he has been involved in any other crimes.
In another case, police in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, have arrested a man for allegedly murdering a 35-year-old individual after the victim's wife reportedly rejected his repeated marriage proposals, an official stated on Tuesday.
According to PTI, the 21-year-old accused, identified as Aminur Ali Ahemadali Molla, was charged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 103 (1) (murder) and 238 (destruction of evidence).
As per the complaint lodged by the 25-year-old wife of the victim, who resides in a slum settlement in Vashi, the accused allegedly murdered her husband, Abubakar Suhadali Mandal, after she refused his persistent proposals.
The crime is believed to have occurred during the night of July 21 and 22, said ACP Adinath Budhwant. After the murder, the accused reportedly disposed of the victim's clothes and personal belongings in the Vashi creek and hid the body nearby.
