Residents in several parts of Thane will experience a 24-hour water cut on June 4, as authorities implement precautionary measures to manage water resources amid concerns over a possible delay in the onset of the monsoon.
Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), while issuing an official statement, asserted that the water supplied through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) network will be suspended from 12 pm on Thursday, June 4, to 12 pm on Friday, June 5.
As per the civic body, the water cut will affect areas receiving water from the MIDC's Jambhul Water Treatment Plant.
The TMC also highlighted that the decision was taken following a review meeting with the Water Resources Department on May 14. Officials cited the influence of El Nino and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), which could delay the arrival of the monsoon and increase the risk of water scarcity in the coming weeks.
During the shutdown period, water supply will remain completely suspended across all areas under the Diva and Mumbra and some parts of Kalwa Ward; TMC also notified that the water cut will not impact Mumbra's Ward Nos. 26 and 31.
Other areas that will be impacted by the water cut will include Rupadevi Pada, Kisannagar No. 2, and Nehru Nagar in the Wagle Ward Committee, along with Kolshet Khalcha Gaon in the Manpada Ward Committee area.
TMC officials said that even after the restoration of supply on June 5, residents may experience low water pressure for one to two days as the system gradually returns to normal operations.
While announcing the water cut, the civic administration urges the citizens to store adequate water in advance and use it judiciously during the restriction period.
Residents have also been urged to cooperate with the municipal corporation's water conservation efforts aimed at preventing any potential shortages before the monsoon arrives.
Amid the ongoing water cut, Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) had also announced a 12-hour water supply shutdown across several parts of the city on June 3 to undertake pre-monsoon maintenance and repair works at key water supply facilities.
According to a statement issued by the civic body on Thursday, maintenance work will be carried out at the high-pressure substations of the Pise pumping station and Temghar water purification centre, which are part of TMC's own water supply scheme. The work includes repairs to control panels, transformer oil filtration and other technical maintenance activities.
