Woman dies after scooter hits pothole in Thane district

A 50-year-old woman riding pillion on a scooter lost her life after the two-wheeler hit a pothole in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Wednesday, reported PTI.

The incident occurred near Jambhale village on the night of June 28, they said.

Aruna Arun Kulkarni was returning home with her 25-year-old son, Pratik Kulkarni, who was riding a scooter, after visiting the Titwala Ganpati temple, they said, reported PTI.

When the scooter was on the Jambhale river bridge, a pothole appeared ahead. Pratik applied the brakes, but ended up crashing into the crater. Aruna was thrown off the vehicle, sustaining severe injuries, an official said, reported PTI.

Pratik rushed his mother to the Sub-District Hospital in Badlapur East, but doctors declared her dead, he said.

Police have registered a case of accidental death and sent the body for a postmortem, the official added.

Boy killed, two injured in car-motorcycle collision in Beed

A 14-year-old boy was killed and two others sustained serious injuries after a multi-purpose vehicle and a motorcycle collided in Maharashtra's Beed district, police said on Wednesday, reported PTI.

The accident took place near the tehsil office on the Majalgaon bypass road on Tuesday evening, they said.

Karim Quadeer Shaikh (14), who was riding pillion on the motorcycle, died at the scene, reported PTI.

Two other persons on the two-wheeler, identified as Kaif Irfan Pathan, who was riding it, and Shafeeq Imran Shaikh, suffered grievous injuries, reported PTI.

Both have been admitted to a private hospital in Majalgaon, officials said, adding that a probe into the accident was underway.

Man dies of electrocution at home in Thane district

In another incident, a 46-year-old man was electrocuted to death after allegedly coming into contact with a live power cable while in an inebriated condition in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Wednesday, reported PTI.

Dharmendra Ramkisan Gupta lost his life at his home located in the Murbad Road locality of Kalyan on the night of June 28, they said, reported PTI.

Citing the preliminary investigation, police Gupta returned home drunk and allegedly pulled the power supply wire connected to a refrigerator. The wire snapped, and the live broken cable came into contact with him, causing a severe electric shock, an official said.

Family members rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead, he said. The body has been sent to a government hospital for a post-mortem, reported PTI.

A case of accidental death has been registered at Mahatma Phule police station, and a probe is underway, an official said.
