A mild earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale struck Maharashtra's Hingoli district on Saturday morning, officials said. No casualties or damage to property were reported following the tremor.
According to officials, the earthquake occurred at 11.26 am at a depth of 5 kilometres. The tremor was felt in parts of the district, prompting residents to step out of their homes as a precaution.
Authorities said the situation remains under control, and no untoward incidents have been reported.
The latest earthquake comes just days after multiple tremors were recorded in Hingoli and the neighbouring districts of Nanded and Parbhani.
On Thursday, four tremors were recorded between 1.37 am and 3.23 am, with magnitudes ranging from 3.6 to 4.6 on the Richter scale.
Officials had identified Shirli village in Basmat taluka of Hingoli district as the epicentre of the earlier seismic activity.
While there were no casualties during Thursday's tremors, several houses reportedly sustained damage in parts of the affected districts.
Earlier this week, the District Emergency Operations Centre said multiple tremors in the Marathwada region had caused concern among residents, although preliminary assessments confirmed there was no loss of life.
The earthquakes occurred when most residents were asleep, leading many people to move outdoors as a precaution after feeling the tremors.
Officials have reiterated that while aftershocks cannot be ruled out, earthquakes cannot be predicted in advance.
District Collector Rahul Kardile has urged residents to remain calm and follow safety protocols in the event of further seismic activity.
Authorities have advised people to immediately move to open areas if they experience fresh tremors and avoid panic.
Emergency response teams, fire services and medical units across Hingoli, Nanded and Parbhani districts have been kept on alert as a precautionary measure.
Officials said the administration is closely monitoring the situation and will take necessary measures if additional tremors or aftershocks are reported.
The state disaster management machinery continues to assess the situation, while local authorities have appealed to residents to rely only on official updates and avoid spreading rumours related to earthquake activity.
There have been no reports of injuries, fatalities or major structural damage following Saturday's earthquake, officials said.
