Afraid that the police would catch him after a complaint was lodged against him by a neighbour in another matter, Morya deliberately ran over the seven people in a bylane, said a cop.
The policeman at Cooper Hospital also alleged that Morya was drunk.
Even as Morya was unhurt, a cop from Goregaon police station, Jeetu Pawar, died on the spot.
Another policeman was injured, three people sustained fractures and the remaining two are in the ICU.
