In a significant boost to infrastructure in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the first phase of the Kasarvadavli Flyover has been inaugurated and is now open to the public. The metro-integrated flyover, expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve regional connectivity, was inaugurated by Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik.
Designed as a strategic link across the busy Ghodbunder Road corridor, the Kasarvadavli Flyover is set to enhance connectivity between key urban centres including Thane, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Vasai, and Virar. The project is also expected to facilitate smoother interstate traffic and ease commutes for office-goers travelling between JNPT, Vashi, and Thane.
The flyover features a 2-lane structure with a width of 7.5 meters and includes a 2x2 lane underpass. The total ramp length stretches 721 meters and is engineered to accommodate up to 73,333 Passenger Car Units (PCUs), making it a critical piece of transport infrastructure for the region.
Among the key benefits of the new flyover are the smoother traffic flow from Gaimukh to Waghbil via the underpass, reduced travel time, and an increase in average vehicular speed along Ghodbunder Road. The project is expected to bring much-needed relief to both daily commuters and freight vehicles by reducing bottlenecks caused by heavy traffic.
With Phase-1 now operational, the Kasarvadavli Flyover marks a major step toward a more efficient and well-connected Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
