The Crime Branch Unit 12 has arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly impersonating an IAS officer and unlawfully staying at the Customs Guest House in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) using a fake identity card. Officers seized a forged IAS ID card, several visiting cards, and a car used by the accused. An FIR has been registered at Malad Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
The accused, identified as Chandramohan Prasad Rambali Singh, a resident of Mahua in Bihar, was found carrying a fake identity card with his photo, falsely identifying him as an assistant director of defence. According to Crime Branch officials, the arrest was made on Saturday afternoon during a routine nakabandi (checkpoint) at Malad West. The operation was led by Police Inspector Balasaheb Raut, along with Constables Chavan, Sawant, Bichkar, Rane, Gorule, and Shirsat, near Silver Oak Hotel in the Malad Industrial Estate.
Name plate raises suspicions
“At around 12.45 pm, our team stopped a car with an IAS nameplate displayed on the dashboard. The driver claimed to be an IAS officer from Bihar. However, Inspector Raut noticed inconsistencies in the ID card and questioned him further. During interrogation, the man admitted he was not an IAS officer,” said a police officer.
The officer added, “He revealed that he had been staying at the Customs Guest House in BKC for the past two days. We recovered and seized fake IAS ID cards and visiting cards from him. He had created forged documents to pose as a senior official.”
Vehicle confiscated
Police also confiscated the vehicle used by Singh, which prominently displayed the fake nameplate. Authorities have alerted the Customs Guest House administration and are trying to determine how the accused gained access to the premises. “We are investigating his real motive behind impersonating an IAS officer and staying at the guest house,” the officer said.
