The complaint in the case was registered by one of the victims, Apurv Kothadiya, an employee of a multinational company. u00a0“After watching a movie in Kothrud, the complainant and his roommate Abhinandan Kudale left for their room at 1.30 am on Sunday, but when they reached Baner Road, their moped broke down,” Police Inspector Subhash Nikam from the Chatushringi police station said.

“The four suspects, who were on two bikes, approached the pair and offered to help. They towed the techies’ moped till they were near Nanaware Wasti on Baner Road, where they threatened the two and asked them to withdraw money from their ATM and also snatched their mobile phones.”

Nikam said the complainant memorised the bike registration numbers while the giving money and handsets to the culprits.u00a0“As the police had their bike numbers, it was not a difficult task to nab them,” Nikam said. “With the numbers, we first traced one of the minors, who is the main mastermind behind the looting, and detained him. During questioning, he spilled the beans on the others.”

The three others were picked up based on the information given by the minor. ASI D B Jawale said Patwardhan and Kazi were banana traders and the two minors were school dropouts. u00a0“We recovered both handsets and Rs 20,000 in cash from them,” Jawale said. The officer said the four were returning after collecting money earned from the banana trade in Mulshi. Investigations revealed that when they reached Baner Road and saw Kothadiya and Kudale, the 16-year-old boy hatched a plan to rob them.u00a0

“The 16-year-old is so clever that after the incident, he first shaved his head to prevent identification,” Nikam said.u00a0
