Heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh has led to flooding in Varanasi, with the Ganga River's water level rising alarmingly. Boat services have been suspended, roads are waterlogged, and relief operations are underway. CM Yogi Adityanath has deployed ministers to affected districts and urged strict monitoring and swift aid distribution.

After several days of intense spells of rain in parts of Uttar Pradesh, several areas in Varanasi city in Uttar Pradesh were flooded on Monday. The incessant heavy rainfall also resulted in an excess rise in the water level of the River Ganga, which has caused havoc in the city.
As reported by the news agency ANI, the water level of the Ganga River has been continuously rising since Saturday, and the situation now seems to be worsening.
Amid the alarming situation in Varanasi, all boats running on the banks of the holy Ganga River have been banned until further notice. Moreover, several Varanasi residents were also seen wading through knee-deep water amid the rising water level and a flood-like situation in the city. Heavy waterlogging in parts of the city caused traffic snarls, making the situation a lot more tricky.
As per news agency ANI, taking stock of the flood crisis, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed all ministers in charge to immediately visit their assigned districts, inspect relief camps, and directly engage with affected families. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also instructed senior officials—including DMs, SPs, and CMOs—to stay on the ground and ensure 24x7 monitoring, said a release on Saturday.
The Chief Minister of UP has also deployed an 11-member ministerial team to oversee relief operations across 12 affected districts. He has also warned the agency that any negligence will not be tolerated and stressed the need for sensitivity, speed, and transparency.
Yogi Adityanath emphasised that the supply of relief materials and food packets must be timely and of high quality, with no compromise on standards.
Emphasising urgency, he ordered round-the-clock surveillance of embankments, swift drainage from waterlogged areas, and comprehensive arrangements for food, medicine, sanitation, and the needs of women and children in relief camps. The Chief Minister affirmed that the state government is fully committed to ensuring the safety, food, shelter, and healthcare of every citizen affected by the floods.
However, the good part is that the weather agency IMD has predicted that isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Uttar Pradesh during 3rd-6th August.
The Chief Minister has also called for immediate action against rumours or misinformation to maintain public confidence and ensure a robust communication system during the crisis.
